TWO LIES AND A TRUTH - STUDENT SHOWCASE (Saturday and Sunday, August 19th & 20th, 2023)

Three things I will say to you
Two are false, only one is true…

We all know our studio fam pretty well, but I’m sure there are lesser known facts about a lot of you that aren’t common knowledge.
So tell us a little about yourself- and leave the audience wondering, until you remove all doubts with your routine.

Come up with two plausible (but fake) facts about yourself, and a third one that is true- we’ll introduce your act posing a question to the audience. You get to clarify the truth.

Your song lyrics might tell us, or the band you pick might be a hidden guilty pleasure, maybe your costuming lets us know, or will you bust out a hidden talent, even the moves you’ve mastered since last show could all be part of your big reveal! What don’t people know about you?

See Amanda to sign up!

Need help or advice developing your routine? Your instructors and open studio time are great resources to work on ideas, get help and feedback. If you're not sure where to start, choreo and sequencing classes are there for you inspiration!

NOTES TO PERFORMERS:

Many students come early (early is better than late- Amanda will be there at 3/4pm. Please come as soon as you like!) to finish hair & makeup, the performance area will be testing heights, rigging and prepping for the show, so the aerial end of the studio will not necessarily be available for routine run-throughs. Upstairs will be available for hair, makeup and stretching.

Amanda will be checking your height if you are performing on lyra or sling. Please leave time for this- you shouldn’t be so frenzied with hair, makeup and costuming that you are unavailable for height check when called!

If you have questions specifically about the Junior Aerialists' group routine, please direct them towards Jacqui (or myself, if you're not able to reach her, I can), and all other questions can be directed towards me: please feel free to text me at 862 823 2778. I am not always able to take phone calls, but I will return texts as soon as I am free/not driving.

DARK CIRCUS STUDENT SHOWCASE 2022 (10/29 & 10/30, 6:30pm)

NOTES FOR VISITORS & SPECTATORS:

*There is a $10 door charge per person (except performers and instructors)

*Please no photography! Please, no flash photography, standing or raising your phone for pictures or video. Flashes directed at performers in a dimly lit environment can cause temporary blindness, and photos without flash will be blury, so photos aren't the way to go anyway! We will be recording all acts for everyone from an unobstructed viewpoint in the rear; that viewpoint only stays unobstructed if noone in the audience stands or lifts their phones to record it themselves!

Our Showcase will be broken down into 3 parts:

1) ACT 1, Standard, family-friendly routines:
These will include Junior Aerialists' routines, most adult student aerial routines, and some squeaky-clean pole routines (all songs without profanity including radio edits: songs with profanity entirely blanked out, acts without obvious sexually suggestive content).

2) Intermission: An announcement that second-act routines might be offensive or sexual suggestive, or be performed to songs with sexually explicit content or unedited profanity....Snacks, drinks- a chance to get up and stretch/use the restroom, converse with other guests, students and instructors.

3) ACT 2, After Dark: Yet ANOTHER announcement that second-act routines might be offensive or sexual suggestive, or be performed to songs with sexually explicit content, followed by acts that can range from having 1 or 2 uses of profanity hidden in the lyrics, to burlesque routines with very little clothing, and everything in between. Since we're an age inclusive studio with an active child and adult student body, we welcome creative acts from our adult students, though we recognize that the mature content of some of those acts is not appropriate for children, and may not be every adult spectator's cup-of-tea! We ask that children/minors take their leave during intermission, and adults that might be offended or made uncomfortable by acts including sexually suggestive choreography, profanity in songs, partial nudity etc. use their own discretion as to whether they will stay for our "After Dark" second act of routines. Upcoming Showcase, new instructors and new classes

Our students and instructors are hard at work creating acts for our upcoming Dark Circus Student Showcase!

November 19th, 20th and 21st we’ll be bringing you lots of dark and creepy aerial hijinx, haunting pole routines and even some “after dark” burlesque.

Our last show was live streamed for the safety and comfort of our at-risk guests, and we may continue to stream our shows in the future for all of our distant studio friends and family, We will allow a limited in-house, masked audience attendance if the rate of covid transmission in New Jersey remains <1 the week prior to the show.

While Tania and Tigre Violette are on hiatus, Paige and EliJah are bringing their own flare to Pole Heels and Burlesque classes.

Our long-awaiting Aerial Sling Choreography class is underway, taught by our newest Instructor, Jacqueline! Some intermediate skills are required to join the class, but if you see your aerial sling instructor, they can help you determine if you’re ready for the choreo class! You can also text Amanda at 862 823 2778 and she’ll work with you on a super quick evaluation to see if you’re choreo-class-ready!

A Successful Showcase and a new schedule!

With a successful, if not slightly glitchy (at first) live-stream of our World Tour Showcase, work begins on editing footage! We’ll be making recordings of routines available to each student ASAP!

In the meantime, we’ve added a new Aerial Sling Choreography class with our newest Instructor Jacqueline! Open studios, lyra, Pole Heels and other classes have also moved- check out our new schedule!

Work begins on our World Tour Student Showcase!

Our students are hard at work assembling all sorts of dance routines for our August 2021 Student Showcase: World Tour. All routine songs are coming to us from artists and bands outside the USA!

Show dates are:

August
6th (Friday) & 7th (Saturday)
13th (Friday) & 14th (Saturday) show times will be in the evening, exact times TBD.

Our Showcase will be live OR streamed, as CDC regulations permit. We'll be deciding which as our public health situation develops this summer. follow us on social media for updates: @flightriskaerials Flight Risk Aerials

Students can opt to perform on all 4 nights, or just the ones they choose! We'll be recording performances for students each night.

The showcase acts will be divided into our standard show, and our “AFTER DARK” acts which will follow intermission. The After Dark group holds space for acts that are risque, have adult themes, costuming, profanity in lyrics, or otherwise are not typically considered “family friendly”, but still showcase lots of talent and hard work!

If you'd like to perform, please contact Amanda via Flight Risk's IG or FB, so she can add you to our Google Doc group! The Google Doc is where you can add the information we need about your routine, and you can reserve a country. We are doing one act per country at the moment, so check to see if your country is available!

Open Studio sessions will be extended: when you arrive at Open Studio, let us know your song and artist, and we will place it in a rotating queue with other Open Studio attendees to make practice easy!

Schedule change: we’ve added a second weekly Lyra class with Paige, and changed our Pole schedule!

  • We’re adding another spot to lyra classes, and opening up a new lyra class session Saturdays at 12pm!

  • Pole Heels and Pole Flow have switched time slots! Pole Heels with Tania is now Mondays @6pm, Pole Flow with Kim is now Wednesdays @6pm.

Both classes are choreography based, guiding you through a beginner-friendly mini-routine to music. Please remember that Pole Heels requires pole-specific shoes and is exotic style, whereas Pole Flow dances barefoot in a classic style. What’s the latest?

Flight Risk will be staying put for the foreseeable future!

What happens if state mandate shuts down Flight Risk Aerials?

If you’ve been with us since before the March 2020 COVID business shutdown, you know the drill!

Flight Risk will obviously shut its doors temporarily in compliance with state mandates, when they occur. Just as in March 2020, we will freeze the expiration dates on all class packages and memberships, and reinstate everyone’s accounts upon our re-opening. If your personal situation changes by the time we re-open, and you can no longer attend classes (frequently or at all), just contact us!

We plan to offer discounted virtual classes again in the event that we cannot hold classes in-house; we’ll be sure to announce these on social our social media!
